Fifth-year senior guard Jay Harris was named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Monday after scoring a career-high 32 points in UIC's 71-60 win over Central Florida on Thursday.
Harris, who transferred from Wagner during the offseason, also established Division I career bests with nine field goals and 10 free throws against the Knights. He was 9-for-16 from the field, 4-for-9 from 3-point range and 10-for-12 from the foul line. Harris scored 12 of the Flames' 18 points in helping the Flames get off to good start in snapping a three-game losing streak.
Harris has scored in double figures in all but one of his seven appearances in a UIC uniform this season. Before Monday's game against Tennessee-Martin, Harris was averaging 16.9 points and 2.9 assists while shooting 42 percent from the field and 87 percent from the free-throw line.
Harris is the first Flame to earn Player of the Week honors since guard Kelsey Barlow did so a year ago.
