Rocky start for Collum

POINT GUARD INJURES KNEE

(11/5/04)

Whoosh! has learned that junior point guard Rocky Collum, who had expected to challenge for a starting role, injured a knee in practice this week.

The 5-foot-10 Collum (pictured), who sat out last year after transferring from Kankakee Community College, could miss six to eight weeks recovering from the injury.

Collum, who suffered the injury on Wednesday, joins center Josip Petrusic and forward Armond Williams on the sidelines. Petrusic likely won’t return until the end of December, recovering from his knee injury, while Williams likely won’t be back until Dec. 12 at UNC-Wilmington after he learns of his final grade.

Marcetteaus McGee now appears to be the definite starter at the point, though Mike Smith and even Cedrick Banks may get minutes at that spot.
