Alok Aiyar

Whoosh! has learned that walk-on guard Alok Aiyar has decided to transfer, according to UIC sports information director Mike Cassidy.

Aiyar was with the Flames for two seasons, playing in seven contests. The 5-foot-9-inch, 155-pound point guard had all three of his career assists against Saginaw Valley State in a 79-47 victory on Dec. 23 at the Pavilion.

Aiyar did not score and missed his only field goal attempt, which came against Cleveland State in the 2005 Horizon League tournament. He was a two-year letterwinner at Bartlett High School.

MADNESS: UIC is tentatively scheduled to hold Basketball Madness at UIC Pavilion on Friday night, October 13. As of right now, the fan fest will begin at 8 p.m. and the players’ introduction with contests will follow. More details will be provided in advance of the event.

RECRUIT NOTES: According to a source, the Flames currently have one available scholarship for the Class of 2007. With rides already accounted to Texas Tech transfer Jeremy Buttell and Maroa-Forsyth senior guard Robert Kreps, it is not sure whether UIC will use it on a guard or a post player.

One prospect that is still strongly interested in the Flames is 6-foot-6 point guard Brad Carroll of Corona del Sol of Tempe (Ariz.). UIC still has interest in Carroll, who is looking for a Midwestern school to call his collegiate home. Loyola and Ball State also seem high on Carroll with Pepperdine coming on as of late.

Carroll was slowed late in the summer by an ankle sprain, but he is ready to go for the upcoming season. Carroll would bring a complete game and a team-first attitude to the school that lands him.

FLICKERS: Kreps, who committed to UIC late in his junior season, was named the fifth-best three-point shooter in Illinois by MidStateHoops.com. … Buttell will also play baseball for coach Mike Dee this season. He is eligible immediately, because the NCAA doesn’t make student-athletes other than football and basketball players sit out a year. … The 2006-07 schedule is getting a last-minute fine-tuning before its likely release next week.
