Redbirds back on the schedule
ILLINOIS STATE TO PLAY AT PAVILION
(8/4/06)
UIC coach Jimmy Collins and his Flames will play Illinois State as part of a challenging slate. The Redbirds have agreed to play at the Pavilion in a game scheduled for Dec. 23, according to a press release issue by ISU on Thursday. It’s the first of a three-game series with two subsequent road games in Normal. UIC is still seeking at least one more home contest, preferably at the beginning of the season.
“I’m really excited about getting back into Chicago to start the series against UIC,” ISU coach Porter Moser said in the release. “We always try to get a game up in Chicago and we were able to make it work.”
The Flames trail the series with the Redbirds 9-7 but UIC has won the last four meetings, including a 60-56 win in Normal in the 2004-05 season. Two of those four victories have come at Redbird Arena.
ISU will be the second Missouri Valley team to play UIC this upcoming season. The Flames play Bradley on Nov. 19 at Carver Arena in Peoria as part of the four-game Chicago Challenge Invitational.
Four other teams are known for the Challenge including Miami (Ohio), who the Flames play in Oxford on Nov. 21, Illinois, Rutgers and Florida A&M. The official field and pairings for the Challenge have not been announced, but it may also include Mississippi State. UIC will play two games at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates on Nov. 24-25.
The list of known opponents includes (most from prior contracts): Illinois, Illinois State, Bradley, Northern Illinois, Miami (Ohio), Davidson, Penn, Mississippi, and Murray State. There should be at least one home game, another possible road game, plus a game in the Bracket Buster on Feb. 17.
The complete 2006-07 schedule should probably be released sometime this month.
