Collins adds late recruit

6-7 FORWARD TO BE A FLAME IN 2006-07

(5/8/06)

UIC coach Jimmy Collins announced Monday that Jermaine Dailey, a 6-foot-7 inch forward from Three Rivers Community College (Mo.) has accepted the school’s offer of admission and will join the Flames for the 2006-07 season.

Dailey (pictured) averaged 9.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.1 per game as a sophomore – all of which ranked in the top 10 of Region XVI. He was third on the team in scoring and second in rebounding. He also shot 60 percent in the field and 62 percent from the free-throw line.

“Jermaine is very athletic, and played junior college basketball for one of the best coaches in the country,” Collins said in a university press release. “He knows how to play. He will fit right in to the up-tempo style we plan on implementing next season.”

Dailey had five double-digit rebounding games for the Raiders, including the final three games of the season. His season-best in scoring was 24 points against South Suburban on Dec. 30, 2005.

Dailey played for coach Gene Bess, who is the winningest coach in junior college history. He joins Latrell Sprewell (Alabama and the NBA), Dominic Okon (Loyola) and UIC’s own Danijel Zoric as recent Division I players who saw action at Three Rivers.

Dailey led the Raiders in rebounding as a freshman (8.1 per game), while also totaling 7.8 points, 2.9 blocks and 1.1 steals per outing.

He played his high school ball at Millington (Tenn.) High School, where he earned Honorable Mention All-State honors as a senior. Dailey was considered one of the top prep post players in the Memphis area and has a reputation for flashy dunks.

Dailey chose UIC over Austin Peay and Lipscomb.
