Williams named Horizon Player of the Week

(1/07/03)

Junior forward Armond Williams became the second UIC Flame to earn Horizon League Player of the Week honors this season the conference announced Monday.

Despite a 68-65 loss to Butler last Saturday, Williams tallied career-bests with 26 points and 11 rebounds. It was his second straight double-double after a strong performance at Northern Illinois in UIC’s 77-45 victory Dec. 28.

Williams shot 10-of-14 from the field and 6-of-10 from the foul line against Butler. He also had two blocked shots and two steals.

On the season, he ranks second in the Horizon League in field goal percentage at 66 percent and fourth in rebounding at 6.9 per contest. Over the past four games, Williams has averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds.

Martell Bailey was the first Flame to earn the honor (on Dec. 2) after a strong showing in UIC’s road victory against Illinois State.

UP NEXT: The Flames welcome their rivals from 90 miles North on Interstate 94 when Wisconsin-Milwaukee comes to the Pavilion Thursday night. The game tips off at 7 p.m. and is the second half of a women’s-men’s basketball doubleheader. ESPN Radio 1000 will have the broadcast.
